Potters Bar Based on Baroness Orczy's classic novel,The Scarlet Pimpernel is a swashbuckling, romantic musical set against the backdrop of the French Revolution. As the Reign of Terror reaches its climax in 1794, a band of brave Englishmen, appalled at the frequent beheadings in Paris use disguises, ruses, and wit to foil the French army and rescue scores of innocent victims of the guillotine. Their leader is an audacious and enigmatic hero known only by his calling card: the red, star-shaped wildflower known as the Scarlet Pimpernel. Back on English soil, the ‘League of the Scarlet Pimpernel’ pose as the fanciest of fops to avoid suspicion. This uplifting, entertaining show is the perfect way to escape from daily stresses and simply have a good time. It is perfect for all ages...it does not contain subject matter inappropriate for youngsters, nor will it leave an audience depressed after a tragic ending. Instead, The Scarlet Pimpernel will bring smiles and laughter: it is a beautiful story of justice and courage, mixed with humour and romance. Excitement, comedy, hope, despair, suspense and intrigue: all of these emotions and more are experienced in this lavish musical, bursting with glorious melodies.
